BeConnected is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation providing services and support to the residents of Sutherland Shire.
BeConnected was formed in October 2015 from the merger of four local community organisations, namely Jannali Neighbourhood Aid, Cronulla Neighbour Aid, Caringbah Neighbour Aid, and Miranda District Neighbour Aid. All four organisations had decades of experience providing neighbour aid/social support services for frail older people and their carers, with the primary aim of enabling older people to live as independently as possible in their own homes and communities. In addition, Jannali Neighbourhood Aid received funding for community capacity building activities, in particular information and referral, and other flexible support.
BeConnected continues in the same tradition, offering a wide range of group and individual social support activities for frail older people and their carers, such as interest groups and classes, group and one-on-one social outings, and assistance with day to day tasks such as banking, shopping, and appointments.
BeConnected operates from four locations across the Shire; Jannali, Cronulla, Caringbah and Miranda. Having four sites across The Shire enables BeConnected to engage directly with local communities and maintain an active presence.
The governing body of BeConnected is a skills-based volunteer Board comprised of individuals with relevant expertise and a strong commitment to locally-based community services.
BeConnected firmly believes that volunteering is part of building a caring, connected community. It offers a variety of volunteering opportunities. BeConnected recognises that it could not maintain its current level of service delivery without its strong volunteer workforce. The Board, staff and clients greatly value the contribution of the many volunteers who are engaged with BeConnected.
