Grandparents Day 2018
This year, BeConnected Community Services was successful in its application to the NSW government Department of Family and Community Services for a Grandparents Day grant. The grant enabled us to celebrate the contribution made by grandparents and seniors in the lives of young people. Special intergenerational events were held at 3 different educational facilities at various stages of children’s schooling, the first at Oyster Bay Preschool, the second in the hospitality classroom at Jannali High School and the third at Kurnell Public School. Grandparents and seniors or as they say at Kurnell Primary School “Grand-friends” were engaged in tours of a classroom, craft, reading, reminiscing and seeing musical and dance performances.
For some seniors the Grandparents Day activities were an opportunity to simply “get out of the house” or “discover what young people do at school nowadays” or converse with “delightful students”. However, all people involved agreed that grand-friends played an important role within the family and community which was worth celebrating!
